A message from AIS East Principal Brad Bates

Just watching the videos about Sue and the other support staff members shows how important they are to the students in our buildings. Sue has been a staple at East for a number of years and brings an energy to the building every day that if you haven’t seen her in the hallways yet, you can surely hear her coming. She is often the first to text me and ask if a class needs covered, or you will often see her stopping to check on a student in the hallway that may be struggling. I can clearly remember a day last year that we were short on subs and I was covering the class until Sue arrived. The class groaned when I told them they would be having a sub for the day...and then Misner walked in the room and yelled “Heyyyyyy!” Immediately the class laughed and cheered, it completely changed the tone of the day for those students. With staffing changes in the middle of the year, Misner volunteered to teach 6th grade Math and Science for three weeks. She was able to keep the class up to speed with the content and helped reshape the culture and climate of that classroom.

Beyond her work in the school, Sue organizes a substantial food drive for the Mary Lee Meier food pantry in memory of her son Wesley as well as taking care of the memorial garden behind White Oak Early Learning Center. Both are very near and dear to her heart.

It is an absolute honor to be able to congratulate you Sue on being named the Avon Schools Support Staff member of the Year. Congratulations.
