2023-24 School Year Highlights

A lot can happen over the course of a school year, especially in a school corporation like Avon Schools. We have compiled a list of some of the academic, artistic, athletic, and teacher/leader highlights that have happened since last July, and you can access them all on our website. 

2023-24 Teachers & Support Staff of the Year

It's Teacher Appreciation Week, the perfect time to reveal our 2023-24 Teachers & Support Staff of the Year. Congratulations to these deserving individuals who were selected by their colleagues!

Attend Nike Softball Camp

AHS has been selected as a Nike Softball camp site. Girls between age 6-14 are invited to come out July 22-25 and get softball instruction from our own staff and players.


If you're a student entering grades 4-11 in the 2024-25 school year and you're looking for a way to spread school spirit and bring people joy as a mascot, you'll love Miracle Mascot Summer Camp. It's coming up on June 17-19.

Attention, students entering grades K-8 in the 2024-25 school year, it's time to register for Avon Youth Sports Cheer Camp! It's coming up on June 27-28. Learn cheers, sidelines, dances, and stunts, all developed for young athletes.


Attention boys in grades K-8, Avon Boys Basketball Summer Camp happens on June 24-27. Learn the fundamentals from Coach Drew Schauss and members of the Avon High School boys basketball team.

Students in grades K-8, mark your calendars and plan for a high-energy show choir experience at Showstoppers Show Choir Camp. It's coming up on June 17-21.

Don't Miss Girls Basketball Summer Camp

Students who are entering grades K-8 this fall are invited to attend Girls Basketball Summer Camp with AHS Head Coach Will Staal and student-athletes from the Orioles basketball program on June 4-6.

Register for Avon Boys Summer Soccer Camp

Attention, boys entering grades K-8 this fall, it's time to register for Avon Youth Summer Soccer Camp. It's scheduled for July 8-11 and will take place at the Avon High School soccer fields.

If you're a student entering grades K-8 this fall, you can register to attend the Avon Softball Youth Mini Camp on June 25 and 26 at Avon High School.

Attention girls entering grades 1-9 this fall, the Avon Lady Orioles invite you to attend Girls Soccer Camp from June 16-20 at the Avon High School Soccer Practice Fields.


The AHS Cross Country team is hosting their 13th-annual running development camp during the week of June 3-7! Runners of all ability are welcome, and Avon students entering grades 1 to 8 are invited.

Attention, parents and caregivers of Avon, Avon All-Sports Camp will be offered again this summer to students who will enter grades 3-8 in the coming school year. Available openings at this popular camp fill quickly so be sure to register today.

Hundreds of incredible Avon teachers deserve our admiration, respect, and support every week of the year, and we're glad for the opportunity we have to demonstrate our appreciation during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10.

Thanks to our friends in the Danville Community School Corporation, Avon elementary students get to explore the outer reaches of space from the center of Hendricks County.


A group of a dozen young men from Avon High School gathered early Thursday morning with Principal Matt Shockley, district administrators, civic leaders, business owners, religious leaders, and hundreds of good neighbors from across the county to participate in Men IN Action READ.

If you're a student who loves Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and you'll enter grades 3-8 in the fall, Summer STEM Camp is for you!

AEF exists to support creativity, innovation, and excellence within Avon Schools. They recently awarded 21 Helping Hands Grants to Avon educators. Meet the recipients and find out how they plan to use their awards.

Students have a special opportunity to support innovation, creativity, and excellence in our classrooms by participating in Hats Off to AEF Day, Friday, March 8. Students who bring a $1 donation can wear a hat to school.

Avon’s kindergarten through sixth grade students have spoken. In August 2025, when AIS East and West open their doors as elementary schools, students will walk into Evergreen Elementary and Willow Elementary.

This summer camp, which is scheduled for June 17-21, is an excellent opportunity for students entering grades 1-8 to learn the fundamentals of musical theatre and experience all aspects of practicing, producing, and performing.

At their January 8, 2024, meeting, the Avon Board of School Trustees celebrated three groups of Orioles who have stood out in recent days for a variety of reasons.

The Avon Town Council has declared Friday, December 15, Black and Gold Day in honor of Avon High School's 2023 National Blue Ribbon School award and the Avon Marching Black & Gold's fourth Bands of America Grand National Championship. Celebrate with us!


Approximately 20 Oriole Advocates boarded two Avon Schools activity vans for a three-hour whirlwind tour of Maple Elementary, Avon High School, Avon Intermediate School West, and the Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry.

Each November, we dedicate an episode of the Orioles In-The-Know podcast to one simple question, “What are you grateful for?” During the e-learning day earlier this month, we spoke with River Birch Elementary, Avon Intermediate School West, Avon Middle School North, and Avon High School teachers, administrators, and support staff about what they're grateful for.

The staff at Maple Elementary rolled out the red carpet for students and their families at a Family Literacy and Multicultural Night. Their goal was for attendees to understand that everyone at Maple is a VIP — a Very Important Person.

Parent-Teacher Conferences a Success

Last spring, district leaders amended the 2023-24 school year calendar to include dedicated space and time for conferences to occur on two afternoons in September. We surveyed parents and educators about the experience and here is what they said.

Parent-teacher conferences will take place for grades k-8 on September 28 and 29. Students will have school in the morning. During the afternoon, parents will attend conferences and students will complete e-learning assignments. Here are the details.

Each year, on the final few days of school, Avon High School seniors gown up and parade around the elementary schools they attended.


The Board, Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham, school and district administrators, and friends and family gathered to celebrate 19 men and women who are retiring from Avon Schools this year.

The Evening of Excellence is a celebration of the Avon High School graduating class featuring the top 25 students by academic rank. Each student honors two educators. Meet them all.

The substance abuse epidemic isn't only happening somewhere else or on the evening news. It is affecting young people in our community. Dr. Wyndham talks with substance abuse, mental wellness, and law enforcement experts about how we can protect and care for young people.

The American Legion honored two Maple Elementary School students for their achievements in Flag Education. They were honored at the February 13 American Legion meeting at Avon Post 145.
